The Russian Judicial System Fails Pavel Bure

His jersey says “Sucker.”

Many sports bloggers scour the AP newswire and other sports blogs for the latest in athletic-themed hilarity. Not MYFO, though. Sure, the rest of the blogosphere is checking ESPN.com and Deadspin. Judging from yesterday and today, we’re the leading hockey blog for all the news Muscovite Journalism can write.

In Soviet Russia, Russian newspaper reads you.

According to one of my favorite dailies, the Russian News and Information Agency Novosti, former NHL scoring machine Pavel Bure has finally received a ruling in his case against British Airways. You see, it was almost a year ago when Bure’s flight from Moscow to LAX (via London) took a little longer than usual to leave the tarmac. In fact, BA875 didn’t go airborne until the pilot was granted his wish that Bure be removed from the plane. Apparently, he has some sort of problem with Bure.

Join the pilot in the audience, after the jump.

Dropping the Gloves with…Alex Ovechkin?!

I Will Break You

Suddenly, those Caps-Pens games will be a bit more interesting. According to reports from Russian publications, Washington Capitals goal-machine Alex Ovechkin got into an argument at a nightclub with some dude named Gennady Ushakov. Ovechkin allegedly punched Ushakov and broke/damaged/rearranged his jaw.

Normally the reaction would range all the way from “I’m impressed with Ovechkin’s toughness/drunken brawling ability” to “Gennady Whoshakov?” Ushakov, in addition to whatever (now completely shot) street cred he might have had in Moscow, also happens to be the agent for the Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin.

I will suddenly be much more interested in Caps-Pens matchups…will Malkin take a run at Ovechkin? What does two Russian hockey players fighting look like? Will Ovechkin find out the hard way that Ushakov has some “friends” in Brighton Beach and disappear forever during the Caps’ first road trip to NYC?

Totalitarian Ted

Chris Chelios, who stole John Cusack’s hockey allegiance from the Blackhawks, says that the truth will come out when the NHLPA releases an 80-100 page report of Saskin’s conduct. 80-100 pages to say that Saskin applied the Patriot Act to his rule? There’s gotta be something juicier than that in the report.

The Greatest Idea You've Never Heard About

...cause the more you know.Early yesterday morning, two dozen teenagers took the ice somewhere in the middle of Southern Siberia to play for their countries. Canada and Russia are taking part in an 8-game series pitting their Under-20 teams against each other. This is a series to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Summit Series in 1972, which was pretty highly publicized, if just for the fact that everyone wanted to see the Russians get their asses handed to them, even if it was by a bunch of goddamn socialist Canucks.

So why has this series never been publicized? The first game happened on Monday, and unless you were searching for it, you’d have no idea it was even happening. Why? Join me after the jump and we’ll figure out why beating up on the Russians just doesn’t have the same appeal lately…and how it can be fixed.

The Search for More Contributors: Edmonton Oilers

It turns out that, contrary to popular belief, there are in fact, more than 10 hockey fans. Thanks to an early announcement, we have been flooded by requests to join the MYFO ranks to represent their team. This all makes for great theatre and quality posts that involve little or no work, so Raskolnikov can stop punishing himself now, but I think he kind of likes it. All this week we here at MYFO will be bringing to you the best applications we have received, so let us know what you think: do these guys suck, should we keep them around for good, do you want to see more before making a decision, or do you think you can do better?

Today: Baudolino – Edmonton Oilers
