Making Puck: Flame Out

Light My FireShorthanded goals are like fire extinguishers. You hope one is handy and ready to go when you really, really need it. Fortunately for the Sharks, Milan Michalek pulled his own pin, aimed squeezed and swept. His shorthanded goal in the second was the difference-maker as the Sharks ultimately pulled away to a 4-1 win over the Flames.

No fair piling on. The Canadiens ganged up on the hapless Bruins, with six different Habs scoring in the 6-1 rout. Cristobal Huet had 31 saves, and The Enigma Formerly Known as Alex Kovalev had a goal and an assist.

You can’t stop Cam Ward. Ward made it 5-0 to open the season as the Hurricanes held off the Canucks, 3-1. The Canes don’t play the Wild until March 6; one would think that both Ward and the Wild will have at least one loss by then.

  1. I take all the credit for inspiring Kovalev to play well. He clearly read my piece. Oh and holy shit that game was fun to watch. We don’t seem to get many easy ones, so I’ll take a whipping of the Bruins any day.

  2. I’m pretty sure I hallucinated the whole thing, and I was there. Habs teams since the 70’s don’t score 6 goals, they just don’t. It couldn’t have happened.
