Who cares if these are bad ideas--nice stems
Welcome to MYFO’s newest weekly monthly semi–weekly annual (maybe) recurring feature, MYFO Mormonism. This is a place where we have ideas that sound good in theory, but when we try to put them into practice, they really don’t turn out as well as we hoped. Much like communism. These are ideas that seem funny to us, but we’re not talented enough to make them into full-blown articles. Join your favorite Melt Your Face-Off writers after the jump for our poorly thought out ideas.
- Over the course of August, the Internets’ most prominent hockey blogger, Greg Wyshynysykyi, ran a series of posts where he asked various people in the community de puck what five ways they would improve the sport. Three things happened:
- 1. We pissed off Ted Leonsis something fierce.
- 2. We beat the topics of contraction, division naming, and shootouts to the point of exhaustion.
- 3. We were appeased by free photos of Ice Girls.
Oh, yeah, one other thing happened. Wyshynynysykyi took one of the best ideas of August before anyone of us other jokers could use it. So instead, we spend the month scouring the wires for other ideas, which meant we gave Stu Barnes more attention in one afternoon than he got in his whole 47-year career. Copycats of the idea ensued, and we, lacking creativity and shame, are ready to jump the boards and take our shift.
To our readers who stuck with us in fucking August – we thank you. September’s around the corner, and for those of you ready to join us after a three-day weekend bender, will find that things will perk up around here in the coming month. But we close August with MYFO’s 5 Ways We’d Change the NHL.
- You see, when there are five of us, we each only have to put 20% effort in.
- Regarding the picture above, Weed has extremely feminine hands.
- Wait a minute. WHY ARE THERE SIX HANDS? This blog is haunted.
Just in case you haven’t flipped your NHL-approved calendar, today is Sidney Crosby’s 21st birthday. Given that MYFO is by far the most friendly (and funniest, and best, and most outrageous, and sexiest, and most congenial – need I continue?) hockey blog on these here internets, we took it upon ourselves to show Hockey Jesus a good time on his milestone birthday.
Of course, Sid was more than happy to spend an evening out on the town with a bunch of bloggers he’s never met before. Drinks were drunk, laws and hearts were broken (as well as an incredibly valuable Hummel figurine collection, but we don’t need to get into that right now), but overall, we had a rip-roaring good time.
So follow me after the jump and follow along on our night of drunken debauchery.
Yeah, well, that was us, exactly one year ago. Many of you, we suspect, weren’t around back when this humble little post got things started. It’s like a time capsule! That was like, three banners and several dozen editors and contributors ago! (Hint: I wouldn’t bother sending an email to the address in the post and trying to get yourself hooked up as an editor.)
Here we stand, however, the Final Five Editors. Our faces are not known. But, thanks to the all-bountiful series of tubes, all of our idiot musings last forever, or at least until the FBI shuts down WordPress. Follow us as we re-live MYFO’s rise from complete obscurity to the 256th-most-read hockey blog in North America (Canada excluded).
And just like that, your intrepid MYFO editors step away from their keyboards, take a deep breath, and dance on the stupid faces of those at ThePensBlog. After the game, Tomas Holmstrom was quoted, “Reasonable Doubt, this one was for you, buddy.”
We’d like to thank everyone over the last six games in Live Blog World. We had a lot of fun and will be back in that game for Awards Night and the Draft a month for now. As for standard daily snark, we’ll be back tomorrow with some recap and recollection…if the booze wears off.
As for Sidney Christ, he’ll be quiet, but we can expect his return in 3 days, give or take.

Just a heads up from your friendly neighborhood hockey blog before everyone leaves for their Friday night festivities: we will be live blogging Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. EST. So be sure to take a few hours out of your busy weekend to spend some quality time with MYFO tomorrow evening – it’s usually a hoot and holler. The usual cast of characters of course will be there and we hope a few new ones will stop by as well. You can find a link to the live blog below, so make sure you get all your chores done in time (whatever they may be), drop by MYFO and participate in the tomfoolery and skullduggery.
UPDATE: The live blog can be found by following this link. Jump down the rabbit hole, if you like.
Hey gang–we’re at it again. Tonight when the Penguins and Red Wings face off for Game 3, your MYFO Editors (the ones that aren’t scuba diving in their basements, anyway) are going to be liveblogging.
Click here to go to the liveblog at about 7:30 PM Eastern time. We’ll see you there!
